The production and consumption of potable water is one of the important applied subjects to which the geographical studies have been directed.

This is due to the increasing demand for drinking water consumption and its other uses.

The importance of drinking water is limited because it is a prerequisite for life as well as one of the basic criteria for measuring the development of countries.

The study aimed at uncovering the mechanism of work of drinking water production projects and complexes distributed in the city of Diwaniya and evaluating its quality, quantity and distribution efficiency.

As well as the study of population growth prospects and future needs of potable water until 2025..

The study revealed that the city of Diwaniyah is equipped with drinking water from (3) major projects and (12) water complex with the quantity of water produced (291360 m 3 / day) (1) in 2017, (57, 620 liters / day).

These projects depend on the Diwaniyah River, the only water source in the city serving 56 residential neighborhoods with a population of 375,600 in 2017, as well as the villages located on the outskirts of the city And transgressors.

The study also revealed a surplus in water production (57, 170 liters / person / day) in 2017 (32, 63 liters / person / day).

More than the approved planning standard of 450 liters / person / day.
