After the continuation ban on the work of foreign banks in Iraq for four decades since the issuance of Law No.

100 of 1964, which all private and foreign banks were nationalized.

Following the issuance of the Central Bank of Iraq Law No.

69 of 2004, thatallowed foreigners to establish and open banks in Iraq until the number of foreign banks in 2017 became 19 banks "from 69 banks of the total number of banks in Iraq of all kinds.

But despite that number of foreign banks did not find what It confirms its expected role, it contributed at best to less than 5% in the volume of bank credit in Iraq, but that only three of them dominate more than 80% of the credit provided by foreign banks
