Abstract EN

This article examines the representations of women in the Algerian cinematic discourse.

It follows a critical analysis method to the Algerian cinematic films that dealt with the issue of women and their issues within the Algerian society throughout different periods of time.

It starts with revolutionary cinema and the cinema of the seventies to the cinema of the black decade up to contemporary cinema, and is evident through the present analysis that there is a discrepancy in the marketed image of women and their interests and issues in society.

However, the dominant feature in these images is the stereotypes that describe women and their role and position in society, as they are hardly deviating from the oppressed model subject to men.
