Abstract EN

This study shed light on the factors behind the establishment of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and its exceptional circumstances that required the Gulf governments to take urgent and deliberate steps to establish a Gulf Union, despite the fact that those governments kept their peoples away from political neutrality in an ideologically and militarily raging region.

The study examined the most important determinants of the Iranian position regarding the establishment of the Gulf Cooperation Council in 1981, which aims to prevent any change in the political geography in the region.

It also showed Iran's view of its loss of its regional role as a result of the establishment of the Gulf Cooperation Council after the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979 and the Iraq Iran war in 1980, as well as showing of the Iranian political perspective and its justifications towards the establishment of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
