تعد وهران من بين المدن الوسيطية التي كانت تركيبتها السكانية متنوعة لوجود و تعدد الجاليات المتوسطية بها وقد ساهم هذا التنوع في تنشيط العلاقات الاقتصادية و الثقافية و السياسية بين ضفتي البحر الابيض المتوسط و عبر كذلك عن التفاعل الحضاري بين الثقافات المختلفة و الديانات السماوية المتعايشة آنذاك بالمدينة و خاصة في الفترة الزيانية و ما نتج عنه من أثار و مظاهر إيجابية و سلبية على وهران و حياة سكانها
