This article attempts to capture the gaps and objections raised by this philosopher about the human rights program.

Between the universality of the norms and values claimed by human rights and their applications, whose horizon is narrow, Habermas sees that these norms are only slogans that the West hides behind and uses them for its own ideological interests.

In the same perspective, Habermas does not hesitate to address a critical discourse to other (non-European) civilizations; all this is done to the extent of communicational rationality that aims at understanding and consensus.

This critical vision of Habermas, concerning the use of human rights, is not detached from his essential project, namely the construction of a common human voice and a universal communicational society surrounding linguistic, cultural and religious plurality.

As a result, Habermas makes human rights the only legitimate rule that can be applied to everyone, even though this is still an unattainable goal.
