Abstract EN

This study relates to an important subject, which is the settlement of international watercourses disputes; since that these conflicts are increasing due to the aggravation of the need for water; its importance and strategic advantage in many political and economic phases, which refers to the likelihood of the evolution of these disputes to reach the level of armed conflicts.

However, the international watercourses involved in this study, include the international watercourse, the international river or the river basin; are defined as the geographical area that spread from two or more countries determined by limits that separte the water system, including surface water and undergroundwater, all of which flow into the joint regions, and are used for purposes other than navigation.

The reasearch studied the two types of settling disputes relating thereto; whether the judiciary, which is done through the international judiciary or through arbitration, some of which arc devoted in Helsinki Convention of 1966 and the Convention on the Law of the Sea in 1997, through negotiations and amicable settlement.

The study also, dealt with these types of dispute settlement; in addition to the major legal principles invoked by the parties to the dispute that is settled through it, through which it can be seen that the most important principle is of equitable and reasonable use.

This study was divided into two main sections; the first one focuses on the causes of international watercourses disputes and its settlement means, while the second studies the principles underlying means of settling international watercourses disputes.
