Abstract EN

This study attempts to examine the father figure in the novel (taste of oil).

It uses objective criticism as an approach for examining contemporary female Egyptian writers’ experience of depicting the father character; a fictional character that imposes itself in the narrative world after it had imposed itself in the social and psychological world of the female author.

At the same time, the study employs the categories of structural narratology which focuses primarily on the inner world of the text.

It contemplates the nature of the relationships that govern the text and link its elements, as well as their effect on the content.

It also examines the formal qualities, functional elements, and inner dimensions which constitute the textAccordingly, the study aims at arriving at the contemporary Egyptian creative female author’s view of the father figure and character, and the way she perceives the outer social world as well as the inner psychological scope and her attitude towards the “father” via two contradictory approaches: the first being understanding and embracing, the other being rebellious or seeking an alternative for protection.
