It is high time to orient the literary text towards its finalist function, with a new awareness towards its reception, analysis and interpretation, including an awareness of the text´s connotations and purposes.

As long as readers cannot grasp the purposes of the text by relying solely on its language, they often need to recall its mode and context of production.

The term mode here refers to the historical processes under which the text is produced, including the historical issues, ideas, representations and doctrines that influenced the text production.

Such understanding cannot be achieved without certain situational contexts, given that the purpose is what decides the context of a given situation.

The short story “Hay Ibn Yakdan” of IBN SINA is a case in point here.

It embodied with a new awareness the question of reconciliation between reason and revelation, a question with which theologians and philosophers were preoccupied, resulting in great conflict among them.
