The Japanese success in countering the first phase of the Corona pandemic was largely underpinned by a proper understanding of the transmission dynamics through identifying clusters and finding case links through investigations by local public health centers.

Collaboration between the prime minister of Japan office (内閣総理大臣, Naikaku-sōri-daijin), the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (厚生労働省, Kōsei-rōdō-shō)and the Ministry of Defense (防衛省, Bōei-shō), in addition to dependency on the awareness of the Japanese educated society, both resulted in that remarkable success.

Medical staff in local hospitals nationwide, specifically more than 25, 000 public health workers at public health centers in all 47 prefectures who tracked down the infection routes, are considered to be the unsung heroes who successfully contained the threat posed by the virus.

In our quest to learn from, adapt models, and develop local initiatives in the Arab world; studying the Japanese model becomes a necessity.
