Abstract EN

The research aimed to study the sources of psychological stress among mothers of students with autism , level of stress they feel, and the methods that mothers take to control these pressures.

The sample of the study consisted of 26 mothers of students with autism who are enrolled in the Fujairah Center for the Care and Rehabilitation of People of Determination, affiliated to the Ministry of Community Development in the United Arab Emirates, They were selected by the intentional method for selecting samples.

The current research used two scale for (Zaidan Al - Sartawi and Abdulaziz Al - Shaks 1998),which are: 1.

Psychological Stress Scale for Parents of handicapped 2.

stress management scale for handicapped parents The research adopted the descriptive survey method.

The results concluded that the most pressure experienced by mothers is concern for the future of the child, the child’s cognitive problems such as the ability to understand and child’s independent performance.

on the other hand cope with psychological stress, mothers use religious practices, specialized cognitive practices like reading about autism, and general cognitive practices like self - education.

Among the recommendations of the research were the importance of involving the parent in preparing the individual educational plan for the child and the need for the center or school to prepare the educational staff to ensure the child’s adaptation and stability in the new environment.
