Abstract EN

This research studies the method of Simile in explaining the meaning of the lexical items of Al-Tha'albi, in his book Philology and the Secret of Arabic, This occurs specifically in the chapter on Simile and representation.

This method relies on downloading one of the two terms with the status of the other, one of which is explained, and the other is interpreted according to the first.

And that is in order to demonstrate its significance.

Al-Tha'albi explains, for example, the grouch to the bird that it is like a brook for a camel, and as a sitting position for a person, and that the claws in a dog and a pamthera leo are like the fingers in a person.

The research adopted the descriptive inductive approach, and it came in two studies.

The first of them included an explanation of the importance of defining the lexical connotation, the methods of lexical definition, the explanation of the method of Simile when al-Tha'alabi and its relationship to semantic fields.

The second included a study of the Al-Tha'abi approach in arranging the section of Simile and representation.

Al-Thaalabi listed (forty and one hundred) word (140), of which (sixty-three) an annotated word (63), and (seventy-seven) an explanatory word (77).

That al-Thaalabi in this way clearly shows the meaning of the lexical item, narrows its use in its appropriate context, and clearly implements the meaning to the recipient.

One worthy point to be added, the method of Simile fits the narrow connotation and does not suit the extended connotation that is suits the style of the linguistic colleges.

It may declare the item of Simile, making the annotated term in the position of the term indicative, and it may not be declared and replaced by representation and similarity.

Besides, the method of Simile suits the glossaries of other meanings and topics more.

It is compatible with the semantic fields, and it depends on properly employing the ranks of words in clarity and ambiguity.

The clearer vocabulary is that which reveals and clarifies the connotation.

In fact, among its positive outcomes is the lexical control and elimination of writing problems such as correction and distortion.

It was also found from the research that Al-Tha'alabi is less cited in this method.

This is because the problem is not related to the proof of the connotation, but rather in the accuracy of its statement and its usage appropriateness.

The accuracy of Al-Tha'albi was evident in his good choice of usage contexts, and his skill in clarifying the meaning of the lexical term by comparing it to its lexical neighbor.

He is also able to push the reader to extract the meaning without declarations.

The research recommends extrapolating the method of Simile to the lexicographers and employing it in building contextual dictionaries.

It also calls for diligence in the renewal of the means of defining the lexical significance among specialists and scholars in Arabic and for the employment of modern techniques in their explanation and interpretation.

In addition, this research is calling for employing programming and realistic simulations to enrich the lexical vocabulary and to demonstrate its meaning.

So as not to disappear or hide its connotations from the emerging generations.
