English Abstract

Happiness is the main concept in positive psychology because it has a prominent place in the history of human thought.

The problem of this research is to identify the levels of happiness of new students as they have moved from a limited stage of study to the university, which represents a broader horizon in the relationships and knowledge aspects of the specialization.

This research aimed to identify the following: Identify the level of happiness of new students admitted to the departments of the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra.

Journal of University of Babylon for Humanities, Vol.(28), No.(2): 2020 The First Scientific Conference of Al- Hamdaniya University for Pure and Human Sciences 91 The statistically significant differences in the level of happiness of new students admitted to the departments of the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basra, according to sex variable (males, females).

The research sample included (150) male and female students distributed among the departments of the college and both sexes.

The researcher used the Oxford Happiness Inventory by Argyle and Lu.

The results of the research showed that all the sample of the final application of the research have indicators of happiness and there is no significant difference on the sex variable between males and females, which was identical with the results of most of the previous studies.

At the end of the research, the researcher presented a set of recommendations and suggestions.
