This research deals with narration techniques in the Arabic novel, and the novel “Behind the Bars of Life” was a model for research in it about the techniques of narration.

And which were numerous, including the language of narration, the technique of time and place, talk about the circularity of time, Analeptic of all kinds, as well as Prolepsis, summary and Intrigue, and some other techniques, as the novel deals with a very important issue, which is "love and war", the girl's love for her father who was deprived of it because of the war.

The pain increases with her age.

Where the word "dad" was deprived, and the pain increases even more when it is also deprived of another person because of the war.

This person is the beloved Youssef Ezz El-Din, and the novel goes through many events, It dealt with one of the most important eras in modern Egyptian history, from the war of attrition to the setback of 67 up to the victory of October 1973.

The language of the novel was an authoritative language with some scenes in which we saw the dialogue with some of the characters here and there.
