Abstract EN

This study takes a new tendency in terms of analysis of Souad Al-Sabah’s poetry and sheds light on her poetry in a way that differs from the previous studies.

Therefore, this study approaches the place in her poems as it diversely attends in her poetic experience and gets into its realistic and imaginative background.

This means that the place forms an intellectual, psychological and emotional awareness that interacts with the self and the other.

The poet, therefore, manages to transform the place from its physical space to the artistic space.

Her awareness of the place and its details appears with a strong feeling of its presence through cultural and linguistic aspects that fulfil the awareness of self and history.

This study examines Al-Sabah’s reference to place through three levels.

Firstly, it revolves around the place and modeling homeland and belonging where home appears as a paradise containing all high values.

Secondly, it revolves around making place appear more human in forming the emotional attitude where place achieves both realistic and imaginative existence through the existence of the lover on it.

Thirdly, it’s formed from the correlation of death and place where death has a destroying relationship to place; it is a relationship that indicates the violence of death.
