تعد النظرية قاعدة لحقل العلاقات الدولية مثل أي حقل معرفي آخرمن حيث كيفية تعريف نفسها و كيف تنظر إلى العالم محاولة شرحه و تفسيرهوعندما ظهرت نظريات متناقضة(العقلانيةالتأملية و البنائية) كان التصادم بينها حتمي لا محالة و هذه الخلافات التي يمكن رصدها من خلال تتبع تاريخ حقل العلاقات الدولية( IR ) ظهرت و عرفت بـ"النقاشات الكبرى"مما جعل الحقل المعرفي للعلاقات الدولية يتخبط بين نظريات و مقتربات عدة كلها عاجزة عن تقديم فهم و تحليل شامل لما يحدث من تحولات و أحداث و هو ما طرح تساؤل أساسي: أي النظريات يتوجب على دارسي العلاقات الدولية أن يتبنوا تسعى هذه الدراسة التي محاولة الإجابة عن هذا التساؤل من خلال أربع أجزاءيتناول الجزء الأول منها التعدد النظري الموجود في حقل العلاقات الدولية.
و يستعرض الجزء الثاني الأسباب المفسرة لهذا التعدد النظري.
بينما يخصص الجزء الثالث لتبيان وجهات نظر الأكاديميين في حقل العلاقات الدولية إزاء هذه التعددية.
و يسعى الجزء الرابع و الأخير لتقديم أهم الحلول التي قدمت لتجاوز إشكالية التعددية و التجزئة النظرية في حقل العلاقات الدولية

The theory is the basis of the field of international relations, like any other field of knowledge, in terms of how to define itself and how to view the world in an attempt to explain and explain it.
When contradictory theories emerged (rational, contemplative and constructive), the clash between them was unavoidable, Their monitoring by tracking the history of the IR field has emerged and has been known as the "Great Debates", which has made the field of knowledge of international relations floundering between several theories and approaches, all of which are incapable of providing a comprehensive understanding and analysis of what transformations and events occur.
Theories Should International Relations Students Adopt? The solution, according to Tim Dunn, is the theoretical clash that he called "integrative pluralism" which will be the focus of this paper discussion.
