Abstract EN

The Wahhabi invasion of Karbala in (1802 AD) is one of the most important topics that must be focused on in studies and researches.

It had led to successive incidents and events that then developed broadly and comprehensively resulting in consequences that directly affected the history of modern Iraq during that period.

The holy city of Karbala was attacked and the holy shrine of Imam Al-Hussein (peace be upon him) was destroyed.

This shrine is a prominent construction that dates back to the painful incident in (61 AH - 680 AD).

The Wahhabis stole, as they used to do in all their previous invasions of other cities, a large amount of treasure (donated by famous and important persons in the Islamic world) that the holy shrine contains.

The Wahhabi attack on Iraq, especially Karbala, had many dimensions, the most important of which is that they, according to their beliefs, regard it contrary to the Sunni and Qur'an.

This belief is olutely wrong, but they considered it a reason for attacking the cities.

The Wahhabi invasions of Iraq represented a decisive and harmful point in the memory of its population at that time because of the suffering and great sacrifices it had incurred and the accompanying developments and major events that threatened the country's security and territorial integrity, especially its holy cities.
