The religious tourism has become one of the most important financial resources for many world's states، particularly of the inward foreign currency of most countries.

Accordingly، the religious tourism is considered as one of tourist fundamentals in Iraq generally and in Karbala specifically، because of its social and economic importance، supporting the national economy، developing cultures between peoples and states and reinforcing them.

Consequently، the holy city of Karbala has the importance and significant impact in developing the religious tourism in the country in general and during the visit in Karbala in specific، considering Karbala as a place where thousands of people go to because the city includes holy places where visitors are coming in constantly and particularly during its peak whether from within the country or outside it.

The paper provides a full picture as much as possible concerning the city of Karbala in that it contains geographical and religious fundamentals and its role in activating the religious affairs in the province of Karbala.
