Italy's mediterranean policy : main features

Abstract EN

This paper investigates Italy's Mediterranean policy by examining the conceptual and practical challenges related to the region and analysing the main factors that played a major role in elaborating such policy (Geographical, historical, economical and political-cultural factors).

Several findings emerge from this study.

Firstly, the considered factors contributed to a dual vocation of Itlay in its regional belonging.

Secondly, that the economic interest is constant feature to the country's approach to the Mediterranean space, privileging a balancing or autonomous policy comparing to other european countries towards the region.

Thirdly, the political-cultural background of the country priviledged a bridging and balancing role in the Mediterranean context.
