Abstract EN

This study aims to assess the reality of the government subsidy policy in Algeria, in terms of its economic and social effectiveness.

The study found that this policy is widespread and very expensive, and despite its contribution to alleviating the burden on the poor, it is directed at all and without restrictions.

Therefore, the study suggested an alternative to reform, which is a gradual shift from a comprehensive support system to a direct cash transfer system for the beneficiaries only, with reform Social protection systems by making them more efficient and responsive to social requirements.
