Abstract EN

The contemporary changes and transformations witnessed which the world is witnessing today in various fields -especially technological, cognitive and economic changes and transformations - to the need for different societies to build the knowledge economy, in which knowledge is the main component of production in it and the driving force for achieving economic growth and desired sustainable development, and which contributes to the continuous development of the educational process.

Education in general and university education in particular are not immune to the effects of the knowledge economy era, but it may be one of the most affected by it and influential institutions, university education has become an important development institution capable of contributing to building the knowledge economy, through performance of his knowledge function, and also through fulfillment of its institutions to provide and implement knowledge activities.

Based on the foregoing, the current study aimed to analyze the role of university education in building the knowledge economy in Egyptian society; in order to put a suggested perception to activate this role.

and to achieve this aim, the current study used the descriptive analytical method; because of its association with the subject of study in its various steps.

the current study has reached important results, most notably: the low cognitive status of Egypt, and the weak capacity and efficiency of Egyptian university education - in its current status - to meet the requirements of building the knowledge economy, and the existence of obstacles that prevent university education in turn in building the knowledge economy in Egyptian society, and that these obstacles vary between the obstacles within the university education system and other obstacles outside.

In the light of these results, the current study put forward a suggested perception for activating the role of university education in building the knowledge economy in Egyptian society, this suggested perception includes ways to face of the obstacles that hinder the establishment of university education in this role, and provides guarantees of the success of this confrontation
