This complex situation has encouraged populations to migrate en masse to wetlands, which in turn creates conflicts with host communities, especially that the environmental immigrant does not benefit from the same legal protection guaranteed to refugees according to the 1951 convention, environmental migrants live in the Sahel in difficult conditions, exacerbated by the Covid 19 pandemic, because preventive measures to reduce the pandemic have closed the borders, while environmental migrants have prevented their voluntary return, which led to overcrowding in refugee reception centers and doubled infection with the virus, food insecurity has also worsened due to the decline in border trade and the drop in humanitarian aid, a situation which puts a strain on the health policies of host countries.
