Abstract EN

The Role of Civil Society in Peace Building Processes in the Democratic Republic of the Congo”, addresses three fundamental themes.

The first one deals with the concept of the Congolese civil society and the nature of its components.

The second theme addresses the country's peacemaking operations which were initiated through the implementation of national and regional mechanisms, and afterwards expanded to international mechanisms.

The third theme deals with the influence of civil society on the aforementioned peace operations, and whether it was beneficial to them or undermined them and contributed to their failure and relapse.

This study aims to shed light on the importance of involving the different components and strata of civil society in peace operations, as they reflect the citizens' different points of view and aspirations.

Since the latter concerns everyone and is not exclusive to one organization over the other.

This study reached an important conclusion which is that the Congolese civil society needs autonomous funding, so that it will not remain under the control of western pressure that direct it according to western aspirations, and so that it will not serve western purposes and interests in a country that has been independent since 1960.
