Abstract EN

At the beginning of the twentieth century, Algeria witnessed the signs of a renaissance that touched all political, social and cultural fields.

Free Arab education had a share of this renaissance, after it preserved its old methods that had not developed for centuries.

Experiences have emerged to advance Arab education by individuals and associations, and The Association of Algerian Muslim Ulema has been a pioneer in this field, since its founding in 1931, it has established many free schools in various regions of the country.

The Association of Algerian Muslim Ulema tried to modernize education, in terms of location, curriculum and methods, so it established a higher education committee that oversees the progress and organization of education, which in turn updated curricula and decisions, and established a certificate for Arab primary education.

However, it has also not neglected defining the foundations of education in its schools that achieve a balance between the principles of Islamic education and keep pace with the spirit of the age, and it also sought to modernize teaching methods.
