Abstract EN

Abd al-Wahhab al-Bayati is one of the contemporary and most well- known Iraqi poets that critics and researchers have written many articles and books about his poetry.

His poetry has undergone various stages to reach dynamic phase; in this evolutionary process, a variety of subjects such as combating poverty, tyranny, colonization, inviting to awareness and inviting to reform political and social affairs have been investigated.

One of the most important themes of his poetry is historical intertextuality.

Abd al-Wahhab al-Bayati has been trying to connect the past and the contemporary era by using and presenting important historical figures.

He sometimes narrates about brilliant past, and compares it with the contemporary unpleasant conditions, and sometimes searches for days of failure in the past.

He has tried to make a similarity or contradictory connection between the past and present by presenting historical events such as defeat of the Arabs in Andalusi, fall of Baghdad by the Mongols, and historical personalities such as Imam Hussain (PBUH), Salahuddin Ayoubi, Alexander the Great, etc.

The present article tries to analyze historical intertextuality in Abd al- Wahhab al-Bayati poems using descriptive-analytical method.
