Abstract EN

Study title: the difficulties that intermediate school students face in developing their English listening skills from the teachers of the English language point of view in Tabuk city.

Study goals: this study aimed at identify the following: 1- intermediate school students’ difficulties in developing their listening skills because of the teacher, the student, the curriculum, educational tools and teaching methods 2- The differences that are statistically stated among the averages of the teachers responses that are based on the academic qualifications and the years of experience.

The Study methodology: The study used the descriptive method because it is the most suitable to know the aspect of the study.

The Study group: The study group consisted of 80 English language teachers of the inTabuk city.

The Study tool: The researcher used a questionnaire to collect the needed data to answer the study questions.

The Study results: 1- There are difficulties the intermediate school students face in developing their English listening skill that is caused by the teacher, perhaps because he is unversed to teach the listening skill, as he doesn’t present the courage and the needed support to the students, and not considering the individual differences among the students and his lack of interest in treating the weakness of this skill.

There are some difficulties that are caused by the students perhaps because the students loss of motivation to learn the listening skill , weak capacity to accommodate the audio text , the students’ lack of familiarity of English vocabulary and having negative tempers towards English.

There are difficulties caused by the curriculum maybe because there is no educational auditory tools accompanied with the curriculum, non logical gradient of the curriculum content and not considering the individual differences.

There are difficulties caused by the educational tools, possibly because of the lack of availability of educational tools for learning listening as a skill, lack of activities outside the classroom to practice listening, lack of special laps for learning the English language skills , not keeping pace with modern developments in the educational tools, and evaluating the educational tools before viewing it by the concerned committee .

There are difficulties caused by teaching methods, perhaps because of the lack of attraction and excitement in the teaching methods, the lack of teacher’s preparation for the class as well as non-diversity of teaching methods that the teacher uses and using Arabic too much while explaining.

2- There are differences that are statistically stated among the averages of the teachers’ responses that are based on the academic qualifications and the years of experience.

The Study recommendations: 1- Holding Training courses for the teachers aiming at providing them with the sufficient experience in the learning skill.

2- Encouraging students to practice the listening skill inside and outside the school.

3- Providing intermediate schools with language labs that helps teaching English.

4- Urging teachers to use modern teaching strategies that help the students developing their listening skill.
