Abstract AR
Abstract EN
From the moment the French army set foot on the Algerian soil, Algerians have spared no effort in fighting this alien presence through armed resistance.
this resistance was led by figures like Amir Abdel Kader and el-Hajj Ahmed Bey, among others.
parallel to the armed resistance, there was a peaceful, political and cultural resistance.
the political resistance was represented by forming parties, writing petitions, sending delegations and holding anti-colonialism protests.
the cultural resistance was represented by a blossoming literary movement that used poetry, theater, story-telling, novels and other means to express itself.
this literary movement shed light on the Algerian cause.
whether it is in Arabic, where the production was very limited, or in French, which was considered part of the Algerian literary movement, writers used their talent as a weapon since the beginning of the great liberation war.
names like Mohammed Deeb, Mouloud Feraoun, Mouloudmamri, Kateb Yassin and Asia Jabbar excelled in painting a true picture of the suffering, the poverty, the displacement, the famine, the imprisonment, the torture, the murder and the forced illiteracy endured by the Algerian people under the colonialism.
such practices were the result of the French westernization policy that was meant to erase every single component of the Algerian personality, particularly during the great liberation war of 1954 / 1962.
