The poetic experience of Abu Tammam is a unique and distinctive experience in Arabic literature.

As our poet proceeds in it not from a keenness on embellishment and decoration, as some scholars see, but from a vision that considers poetry a kind of creation of the world by language, and seeks with all its might to discover new relationships between things and between them and words, which resulted in the novelty of his poetic language, the virginity of his methods, and ambiguity meanings and confusion.

Which was a shock to his contemporaries, confused their tastes and bewilderment, and generated a number of responses and critical readings, perhaps the most important in the history of our ancient Arab criticism, given the opinions expressed by its contributors about the language of poetry and its aesthetics, and what they seized during their argument about Habib’s poetry from the characteristics governing the structure and expression of the poem.

And draw the limits of the use of metaphor and words in it.

Perhaps we are not exaggerating when we say: The critical attitudes in our heritage from Abu Tammam’s poetic experience and his attempt at renewal embody the best embodiment of the ancients’ positions in general on the issues of poetic creativity, and crystallize for us their perception of literary: what counts from it, and what separates from it and is stripped of it.

It also crystallizes the totality of the reading mechanisms that they used to penetrate the poetic text and expose its layers in an effort to intimate adherence to it and then objective judgment on it.
