The genocide and persecution by Myanmar against the Rohingya minority urged on November 11, 2019, the Republic of Gambia to take action bringing a case against Myanmar in the International Court of Justice in The Hague for genocide, accusing the country of violating the 1948 genocide convention in a systematic campaign of ethnic cleansing.

On 23 January 2020, the international court of justice approved provisional measures compelling Myanmar to halt all persecution of the ethnic group, including killing, raping and destroying homes and villages.
