Abstract EN

This research deals with the maritime trade activity at the beginning and up to the first third of the nineteenth century, during the era of the rule of Yusuf Karamanli.

The focus is on free trade activity as one of the tributaries of the economy Tripoli Eyalet , especially in the territory of Cyrenaica.

After describing it geographically, we dealt with the separation of maritime Jihad (piracy) from commercial activity, and the impact on revenues Yusuf Pasha who resorted to other means to fill the shortfall in revenues and from practicing commercial activity and the monopoly of export and import of certain goods on behalf of, and taking a loan in foreign merchants in exchange for giving them monopoly export licenses of the region's agricultural products and imported similar goods from Africa.
