Abstract EN

The study aimed to identify the negative effects of using social media on a number of values from the perspective of students at Istiqlal University, And to detect the existence of differences between students according to variables: (gender, educational level, college, place of residence).

The study followed the survey method.

The sample of the study consisted of (90) students.

The results of the study indicated that there are medium negative effects of social media on values, and the negative impact of social media was reflected in the following order (cultural values, religious values, personal values, moral values, social values).

It was also found that the use of social media broadcasts in the same student the love Western ideas, and make it does not perform prayers on time, the student is busy reading the Qur’an.

The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences according to variables: gender, educational level and place of residence.

While there were statistically significant differences according to the college variable and for the benefit of the faculties of administrative sciences, humanities and law.

The study came up with a number of recommendations: (The introduction of media education within the university courses to teach students the critical thinking of what is published through the media in general and social networking sites in particular, And close monitoring by parents and the state on the use of social media, instilling authentic Islamic values in the souls of children and urging them to stay away from Western ideas).
