Abstract EN
As a result of the globalisation and openness of the civilisations and cultures, it was evident that intersociety communication and exchange has imposed the necessity of understanding and overcoming the barriers of languages As a result of the globalisation and openness of the civilisations and cultures, it was evident that intersociety communication and exchange has imposed the necessity of understanding and overcoming the barriers of languages and dialects, and this resulted in triggering the efforts to produce translations and facilitating to know what others possess.
This requires mentioning words and phrases of foreign languages in the language in which the text is written by using letters of the language used in the translation.
This is what is referred by the westerner researchers as “transliteration” and “transcription”.
This research represents a leading Arabic study in the field of studying these written phenomena and their relationship to the Arabic language.
This research is divided into two sections.
The first section presents the general principles which govern the transliteration and transcription, where both the phenomena were defined, with the statement of their differences and their respective features.
Whereas the second section presents the position of the Arabic language as far as transliteration mechanisms are concerned.
It is a target language, so its Arabic’s alphabets were used in writing many foreign languages for Muslim societies in Asia and Africa, and it remains in use until today in many of these societies.
However, as a source language, an essential thing that is raised for discussion is knowing how to write Arabic phrases and words within foreign texts, especially texts written in Latin letters.
