Abstract EN

Covid 19 pandemic caused significant damage to global economic growth and caused positive and negative impacts on the environment.

This study provides an overview of the observed effects of the Corona pandemic on the environment by reviewing case studies from different regions of the world such as China, India, the Middle East and some regions of Europe.

In this study, a comparison of greenhouse gas emissions concentration levels during the pre- and post-pandemic period was made using the European Satellite Copernicus Sentinel-5P and NASA Earth Observatory as well as the GHGSat-D Observatory.

The result of this study indicates that the spread of the Covid 19 epidemic led to a decrease in the NO2 concentration in the Earth's atmosphere, also to a decrease in the aerosol optical depth and BM10 concentration level, as well as a marked decrease in the sulfur dioxide concentration SO2 in more than one region around the world, accompanied by a marked improvement in air quality in many regions of the world, including China, India, the Middle East, the European continent and the United States.

In these areas, too, the decrease in the use of private and public transportation, as well as commercial activities, led to a decrease in noise levels.

This study showed that, despite the positive effects on the environment, there are also negative indirect impacts on the environment such as the accumulation of solid waste due to the temporary suspension The waste recycling program in some regions of the world due to concerns about the spread of the virus in recycling centers, and also because of the increase in the production of hazardous medical waste, which any deficiency in its management may lead to serious health and environmental disasters.

The study showed that there are hotspots for methane emissions over the largest oil and gas production fields in the United States and China.

also reveal an increase in the concentration of methane in the ambient air over the largest oil and gas production fields in United State and china. The study concluded that the observed reduction in the concentration of greenhouse gases during the Kovid 19 lockdown period is not a sustainable way to clean our environment from pollution, and that the decisions that will be taken during the coming days to revive the global economy may cause escalating damage to the environment, but if those decisions were taken wisely and were taken with due consideration for the environmental dimension and the principle of sustainability, the decisions can contribute to creating a healthier and greener world.

The study also emphasized the need to take advantage of the lessons that accompanied the Corona crisis in building a better future for the world where opinion polls from all over the world showed that people want to protect the environment and maintain the positives That appeared during the crisis.

methane in the atmosphere, which may lead to damage to the planet's climate and an acceleration of global warming.
