Abstract EN

This study seeks to comparatively describe the remote management practices in the digital-only, hybrid and traditional Egyptian newsrooms during the pandemic of Covid-19, including the organizational, editorial and technology procedures that have been followed.

It also explores the Egyptian Journalists' attitudes and assessments towards the application of remote management policies in newsrooms.

Depending on the distributed newsroom model, the study found that the Egyptian newsrooms adopted different approaches of remote management, but they all matched with the pre-Corona workflows, structures, and processes.

They tend to replace the real communication channels with virtual ones, without any change in the organizational structures as the distributed newsroom model assumes.

Also, the newsrooms did not invest the situation adequately to implement new projects of cooperative or participatory journalism, with a clear decline in journalists' training.

Despite this, the study reveals a positive attitude between journalists towards remote working because of its benefits on the level of time, effort, and money-saving, with concerns towards its negative impact on innovation and productivity in newsrooms.
