Abstract EN

This research deals with the poetry of irony by Abu Al- Shamaqamq, and studies it through an introduction and two parts.

The introduction shows the concept of irony in language and usage.

The research then talks about the life of Abu Al-Shammaq and its impact on his attitude towards irony.

The first part deals with the attitudes of irony in Abu Al-Shammaq's poetry, which goes in two directions: the first - mocking the self, and the second - mocking the other.

The forms of mocking the other varied, as we find Abu Al-Shammaq mocking the governors and senior statesmen as well as his fellow poets, the wretched and stingy.

Then second part deals with the technical characteristics of Abu al-Shammaq's poetry of irony, through the study of the poetic lexicon, the poetic image, and the poetic rhythm.

The ends with a conclusion, which includes the most important findings of the research.
