البرامج الإصلاحية في السجون بين الواقع و المأمول : دراسة ميدانية على النزلاء و العاملين في سجون مدينة الرياض

Abstract EN

The study was aimed to shed the light on the reality of correctional programs rendered at jails and find out to what extent they have achieved what they were set for, the amount of participation in them by inmates as well as exploring the main hurdles that prevent these programs from achieving the required goals, through a field study on the jails located in Riyadh city.

The study belongs to the d analytic descriptive type of studies and applies the social survey approach on two samples for study: the first sample was represented by the officers and staff of jails of Al-Malaz and Al-Ha'ir and included (71) researched persons, while the second one was represented by the inmates at the two aforementioned jails and included (136) inmates.

The study used questionnaires as tools to collect data by setting two questionnaires, one of them was applied to the staff of the jails and the other one was applied to the inmates.

The study reached several conclusions, the most important of them was that correctional programs of all types are existent at jails but they need to be developed in some aspects particularly taking care of inmates' families.

The study also revealed that the correctional programs have achieved the goals they were set for by changing inmates' behaviors; however, it found out that the inmates themselves are not attracted to many of these programs which need to be redeveloped to suit the inmates.

In respect of the main hurdles which prevent implementation of the correctional programs, the study pointed out that one of these main hurdles is that jails are overcrowded by inmates in addition to lack of the cadres trained to set and implement correctional programs.

The study presented several recommendations, most important of them is the necessity of developing the correctional programs by making them attractive and taking care of inmates' families as well as the need to train and qualify those in charge of the programs which are essential to rehabilitate the inmates to become good individuals in the society.
