Taking adequate measures to identify the victims, in the cases of grave violations of the human rights and international humanitarian law, is a matter of great importance.

Restoring the identity of people who have been separated from their families of origin, including those who were forcibly taken away from their families when they were young children, is dictated by humanitarian imperatives.

In this context, we find that Forensic genetics, when applied, independently according to international standards, can contribute effectively to determining the identity and remains of victims' corpses, and confronting the issue of impunity in which the victims' families may find some solace.

Therefore, Forensic Genetics is one of the tools that would enable ensuring full establishment of the law; and that is why it needs to be in conformity with the rule of law.
