Abstract AR
With the multiplicity of challenges facing Egyptian governmental universities' outdoor public spaces its outdoor public spaces (as an integral part of the university campus) are affected by those challenges, affecting its role in supporting the educational process, and in achieving the plans and goals of developing the campus.
In addition, the lack of an appropriate classification of these spaces.
Which limits the development of appropriate plans to deal with it.
The study aims to present and discuss the challenges facing Egyptian governmental universities' outdoor public spaces.
relies on an inductive approach in reviewing those challenges and their implications on design and development objectives of the university campus.
The study concluded that image and role of the university is not only affected by its indoor spaces and the equipment it provides, but extends to its outdoor public spaces, so paying attention to its challenges is a pivotal step in the university's development.
Emphasizing the role of those spaces in restoring the university's role by providing opportunities for social and cultural communication, and the transfer of community experiences among students.
Finally, stressing the need not to neglect the university's endeavour to establish an attractive educational environment using outdoor public spaces for its great role.
The study recommended to establish a comprehensive vision for the development of Egyptian public universities that seeks to use outdoor public spaces in providing an attractive educational environment capable of keeping pace with developments that occur at the educational, political, economic and social levels.
And the need to work on reviewing plans to take advantage of them to achieve financial sufficiency, in a way that serves the university's plans to enhance communication and community feeling.
Finally, the need to work on developing mechanisms to review and measure the role of outdoor public spaces in Egyptian public universities.
