Abstract EN

Electronic learning is one of the relatively recent forms of education.

It has been rapidly adopted by various higher education institutions and there are some full programs which are offered completely online.

Moreover, Corona pandemic (COVID-19) has forced a complete shift from traditional education to e-learning.This study aims to evaluate the e-learning experience of information studies courses via examining a module about information search skills during one semester at Sultan Qaboos University.

Via this module, the paper discusses several mechanisms: moving the delivery of classes from the traditional method to the electronic method, the teacher-student communication during the semester, the discussion forums of lessons, and the evaluation of the assignments provided at the mid-term and final exams.

To achieve the purpose of the study, all materials related to the course were reviewed and analyzed: lectures, discussions, assignments and teacher-students communication mechanisms.

In addition, a short questionnaire surveying students about their e-course experience was used and analyzed.

The results of this experience revealed how e-learning, through the detailed reports provided by the e-learning system, facilitated the students assessment and the monitoring of their activities and development during the semester.

It is hoped that the results of this study could contribute to clarifying the stages, methods, opportunities and challenges facing the process of electronic transformation and how they can be addressed.

Evaluating this e-learning experience will help enhancing the electronic-transformation of teaching information studies courses in particular and other courses in general.
