Abstract EN

Tanzania is multilingual country.

This means that language users use more than two languages.

According to the Tanzanian Ministry of Education and Culture, language policy divides used languages in Tanzania into three main sections.

These sections are: 1- The languages of tribes.

2- National language (Swahili).

3- Foreign languages.

This division takes into consideration languages status more than languages function.

This division has led to everyone in the community uses language according to the relevant environment.

That means one speaker usually uses a language in a specific linguistic environment, but if he (she) is in another linguistic environment, he (she) has to use another language.

This study aims to clarify the language policy in Tanzania.

It also aims to clarify language conflict resulting from the use of two languages and its effects.

Besides, this study will try to shed light upon used language or languages in education in its various stages, and whether Swahili is used, English or tribal languages.

Also it aims to show obstacles which stand in the way of strengthening the Swahili language.
