Abstract EN
The study of the health aspects in general, and epidemics and diseases in particular, is considered as one of the most important studies that s concerned with society and its problems; due to its influence on all aspects surrounding it.
Among the epidemics and diseases that had health and economic influences on the Egyptian society in the first half of the twentieth century in general, and on the people of Qena and Aswn districts in particular is Malaria epidemic, which was caused by the Gambia mosquito, which invaded Upper Egypt in the forties of the twentieth century, specifically early in 1942.
The importance of this study is due to the effect of this epidemic on the health and economic aspects of the affected areas, as this epidemic has affected a large number of the poor in these regions, not the rich.
Due to the spread of malnutrition-related diseases among them, they were more vulnerable to infection than others.
This research included several axes: one of them deals with the emergence of the Malaria epidemic in Nubia, then its spread in the rest of the districts (Qena, Gerga and Assiut).
Other axe are the measures and means to combat the malaria epidemic, in terms of the campaign in both its curative and preventive aspects, such as reliefing and treating the patients, then strengthening the Malaria Department, financial measures for the control campaign, and measures of the Gambia mosquito eradication and the extermination of its larvae.
The last axis deals with the third part of the control campaign, which is relief for the victims of Malaria.
Among the most important findings of the research is the great role that the civil society institutions played, including non-governmental (charitable) organizations and institutions, in combating the Malaria epidemic in Upper Egypt, which is represented by the active participation of the Mabarat of Mohammed Ali Al-Kabeer and the Egyptian Red Crescent Societies, as the participation of these organizations had a prominent role in alleviating the suffering of the people in the plagued the areas.
