Abstract EN

This study aimed at identifying the nature of the relationship between parents and juvenile delinquents in UAE society.

The study was carried out on 94 juvenile delinquents in several Juvenile Institutions in the UAE.

A survey questionnaire was used as a principal tool for collecting data.

The validity and reliability of which were confirmed.

Key Findings: The results indicated that juvenile delinquents in UAE’s Juvenile Institutions suffer, to some extent, from incomplete socialisation through the relationship of the delinquent with his or her parents in general.

The study also showed that parents’ interaction in general with female juveniles tend to be more negative than that of male juveniles.

In addition, it was evident that when juveniles live together with both of their parents it leads to a more positive interaction by parents towards juveniles in general.

It was also found that the degree of inadequate and incomplete socialisation in juveniles from families with low monthly incomes is statistically more significant than the degree of inadequate and incomplete socialisation in juveniles from families with high monthly incomes.

Main Recommendations: The study suggests that parents need to pay close attention to the juvenile delinquent, particularly females, youngsters and those with lower educational levels.

The study further recommends that parents’ relationships with each other should be positive as each of them has an impact on juvenile delinquency and on the handling of delinquency.

Additionally, parents should understand and be aware of deviant behaviour.
