Abstract EN

This research deals with ‘Medina’s precinct and its boundaries throughout history’, which is an important topic given its relevance to Al- Madinah Al-Munawwarah and its historical and geographic landmarks.

The research sought to address the history of the proscription of Medina, the ruling on marking the boundaries of its sanctity, the trends and disputes of jurists regarding its sanctity and borders, the difference between precinct and shelter, the features of Medina sanctity, and the views of contemporary researchers on identifying and discussing this subject.

The most important results of the research: (1) the scholars did not agree on the precinct of Medina as they agreed on the precinct of Mecca; (2) the majority of fuqaha held the opinion that Medina is a sanctuary, and the Hanafis considered that Medina does not have a precinct; (3) Medina has a precinct and this was proven in the seventh year of Hijra; (4) the boundaries of Medina are set between the two labas (al-Hurratain) east and west, and between Mount Eer to Mount Thor south and north, most probably to the right; and (5) the two labas are not part of the precinct, but are rather most probably situated between Mount Abr and Mount Thoor without anyone of them being stretched to either side
