Abstract EN

Background: There is a dearth of information on drug addiction in the Arab world.

Thus, this study aimed to explore the life course and evolutionary stages of drug addiction in Jordan.

Methods: A grounded-theory approach was used to explore the life course and evolutionary stages of drug addiction in Jordan.

A purposive sampling method was used to select a total number of 20 participants that met the selection criteria for this study.

The qualitative research method used to obtain data in this study was an in-depth interview.

The data obtained from participants was analyzed via the codification and the (constant comparative method), i.e.

the constant comparison of notes obtained from the interview sessions.

Results: This study revealed that six evolutionary stages describe the life course of drug addiction in Jordan.

These stages include entering the world of addiction, attachment, crisis, social motivations for seeking treatment, treatment and rejoining society
