Abstract EN

The current study aimed to identify the reasons for students’ reluctance to participate and practice Extracurricular Plastic Arts Activities in higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.

The sample of study consisted of (331) male and female students who were randomly chosen from four higher education institutions in Oman (2 governmental & 2 private universities).

For the purpose of achieving the objectives of the study, the researchers prepared a questionnaire consisting of (23 items), whose validity and reliability were verified.

Data were analyzed using the Mean, Standard Deviation, T-test and One Way ANOVA to know the significance of differences among the sample of the study.

The results showed that the reasons related to academic study ranked the first, followed by personal reasons related to the students themselves.

The results also indicated that there were statistically differences at (α=0.05) between the average scores of the study sample members regarding the identification of the reasons for students’ reluctance in favor of private institutions.

The results of the study equally demonstrated that there were no statistically significant differences among the sample responses due to the agenda, year of study and type of accommodations.

This study ended up with some recommendations such as the necessity to give more attention to extracurricular activities at higher education institutions in general and art activities in particular, with the need to review the linking of academic study to extra-curricular activities and providing a suitable environment for the practice of such artistic activities.
