Leadership’ is a modern term that many institutions and organizations advocate for and link to their organizational visions and missions.

Among its connotations is motivation in order to reach something that others are competing for and which is common to all of them.

It is inconceivable that leadership would be present in any party that is not regulated by the laws of governance.

Leadership is related to the Shariah, legal, financial, investment and administrative framework.

In the endowment sector, leadership may be achieved in initiatives, projects, financial formulas, or the realization of new resources or innovative new assets.

This implies the existence of a competitive environment between endowment institutions for the purpose of forming pioneering economic and social development in society and the state, and this will not be achieved unless the waqf institution is truly pioneering.

Regarding the foundations of this study and its implications for the endowment sector, the research deals with two main themes: the first: waqf leadership, its definition and determinants; and the second: salient signs of waqf leadership.

The research reached many results, including that endowment leadership is a process of continuous development of the endowment and its revenue to create an innovative addition.

Also, endowment leadership considers the cultural and social specificity of the endowment institution and designs for it a framework of standards and references.

It also provides the ability to implement while taking into account its distinguishing characteristics.

The most important challenge in endowment leadership is continuity and permanence, and this includes the philosophy of a strategy of diversification in investments, in business geography, and the search for unrelated returns.

It also includes the search for a strong management team, taking advantage of the long-term nature of capital returns that are unique to endowment institutions, working to realize liquidity needs and reduce risks, and paying attention to tax legislation.
