Abstract EN

This research paper discusses the history of the church in the era of persecution, and the study aims to find out the reality of persecution, its extent, its wide spread, the fact of its impact on the history of the church, and whether it was a reason for the cessation of its activities, and whether persecution actually continued for three centuries.

The research paper was divided according to several topics.

The first dealt with the emergence of Christianity under the Roman Empire, the beginning of the call to Christ, the principles and belief that he preached, and the Jews ’planning to eliminate him.

We also dealt with the role of the apostles in the rise of the church after the martyrdom of Christ according to the Christian narrative, especially the impact of Saint Peter and Paul in the history of Christianity.

The second topic discussed the reasons for the persecution of Christians, the stories of persecution in the first century AD, the doubts that swirled around them, and the development of the ecclesiastical system throughout the territories of the Roman Empire.

In the last topic, we touched upon the actual persecution that Christianity witnessed after the middle of the third century, which negatively affected it and could have been comprehensive and ended the persecution with the victory of Christianity after it became the official religion of the Roman Empire in 313.

Christianity has spread despite the difficulties, obstacles and persecution after it addressed the hearts and called on all segments of society to join it.

The saints presented honorable models full of sincerity of faith and strong relationship with the Creator and Christ, embodying love, righteousness, patience, mercy and countering offense with charity.

A number of historians questioned accounts of persecution and the absence of a fixed system or general rules in punishing Christians.

The words of Emperor Trajan were considered evidence of the absence of a general policy for the state in persecuting Christians until the end of the first century AD, as stated in Christian sources.
