Abstract EN

In this research, we sought to lay bare the concept of narrative identity and specify its types as well as occurrence in fictional narratives in different forms based on the identity problems that writers report, some of which are real and others are imaginative.

The importance of this research lies in its attempt to study the concept of narrative identity by presenting the opinions of the critics with a view to reaching a more precise definition.

This definition will entirely be derived from our discussion of those views and will be followed by a close study of the manifestation of narrative identities based on creative, critical and intellectual sources.

This will ultimately reveal all the types of narrative identities in the Arab narrative tradition.

The researcher reached the following results: • There are narrative identities based on variety and contrast, which we call disparate identities, and recitative identities whose concept is reflected in their names.

• Presence of the narrative representation of all types of identity schism mentioned in the research.

In this way theory corresponds to narrative representation.

• Abstracting some neutral terms or attaching them to the original/ principal terms in order to clarify and expand the connotation.

Some definitions of some fragmented identities have been abstracted as we have not found definitions for them among critics.

We derived their definitions from the critics’ explanations such as impure identity, or from the existence of identities in narrative texts such as the appeasement identity
