The struggle of identities in greene's "power and glory"

The Present Paper discusses the conflict of identities in Graham Green's novel “The Power and the Glory” Regarding the term of Conflict which is a struggle between two opposing forces.

In the Novel that is mentioned previously, there are two types of conflicts which are External and internal.

Identity is composed of specific features that suit a specific group which enable them to identify this group with these features.

This study tackles with the conflict of identities and focuses on the Protagonist and The Police Lieutenant.

The Protagonist is called the Whisky Priest as he is a true priest and has faults like pride, despair and wine.

He performs his duty as a Priest in church.

He escapes from the Police Lieutenant and is arrested and executed thus a sinner saint stands for faith.

He represents religious, and Psychological identity.

The Police Lieutenant is outlaw religion and wants to erases the faith and belief.

So, he puts a legislation the rule that churches should be closed and priests should either leave the state or get married.

He chases the priest for a long period of time and finally arrests him.

He is symbol for the dictator of a secular state and represents Political identity.

This Paper consists of an introduction that talks about conflict and its type external and internal, identities and Graham Green's life.

It is also comprising Identities that are divided into three, religious, political psychological identity and Internal conflict, External conflict with a conclusion.
