The study aims to shed light on the Russian and the United states competition in Syria in terms of defining the interests of the two parties and examining the motives behind their intervention.

Both Russia and the United states included the Syrian crisis in their agenda since it is a gateway to influence in the Middle East, and both sides used it in a way that serves their interests.

Russia saw in the crisis an opportunity to restore the Russian role as an actor in the international politics, while the United states used it to tighten its full control over the Middle East and eliminate any potential competitor.

The Russian and the United states role in the Syrian crisis has been determined through military and political intervention, starting with the parties each side supported, while Russia supported the Assad regime at the expense of the opposition, the United states did the opposite.
